TraxInSpace review for the song "Peace 3" by Sergeisergeievich ======================================== Reviewer: syLem Date of Review: 3/8/1999 1:16:00 PM Overall Impression: 8/10 Review: A piece of not quite four minutes, whose style I'd have to qualify as orchestral techno-pop with a heavy reggae overtone following just about the same theme throughout, bearing the "happy-go-lucky" which is Sergei's trademark. If you're looking for something new and/or totally different from the norm as far as style is concerned, yet harmonious and pleasing to the ear, this is it! Good variety in the arrangements and leads will keep your interest up for the duration. Creativity: 8/10 Creativity Comment: This particular style of music is seldom heard! Techno-pop, with orchestral arrangements, and a reggae- style bass line is a blend which, personally, I have never heard before! Then again, I'm not God or anything, so I guess that there could effectively be something else like it out there... Artistic License: 7/10 Artistic License Comment: The balance of leads and arrangements, as well as the arrangements themselves, do a good job of putting variety into this piece and remove the repetitivity that will usually come with a piece with little variance in its main theme. The use of single-note samples rather than chord samples, though, might have provided more flexibility, both in sample selection (meaning quantity of available samples out there) and in sound-making abilities. Arrangement: 8/10 Arrangement Comment: The drum/percussion line is elaborate and somewhat varied, almost loop-like. The bass line is elaborate and well varied. The rest of the arrangements are well done and varied; though using single-sound samples assembled into chords rather than chord sample would provide more flexibility when tracking, what is there is very good as it is. Sample Quality: 7/10 Sample Quality Comment: Samples are all 8-bit, fair to excellent quality. ======================================== ######################################## ModArchive review for the song "Peace III (peace3.xm)" by Sergeisergeievich http://www.modarchive.com/reviews/peace3.xm.rev.html Classification: Demostyle, Amiga/Oldschool, Latin Quick Rating: 8.0 Musical Rating: Very Good / Professional I can feel myself lying at the sweet sand of the south beach near the warm ocean while listening this tune. That's my general impression about this tune. In some point of view the subject is too long - you won't find many variations. Some elements (such as scratches, piano, sound effects) are placed very well - they are not breaking the whole composition. As for me should be a bit shorter, but it's only up to author to decide. Technical Rating: Excellent / Professional Stereo separation is ok. I can say the same think about panning. All samples are 8-bit, but you won't ever feel it (instead reading the data in your player). The whole sound line is waving normally, no peaks and no mistakes. This, combined with syncopated brass and a a nice percussion give the track an almost 80's-ish feel. I think more attention could have been payed to working on a nice lead, as the track is a bit bare. There's several instances with melodies, but it's difficult to carry the track without a thematic lead. The guitar sample in the track fits well, though it's a bit too overpowering. Overall, this is a really nice remix of a decent tune. Technical Rating: Good/Amateur The percussion is straight out of the 80's, but is well written. The bassline has some cool triplets that flow really well with the mood of the track. I have to mention again the cool little chord progression changes through the track. This is a nice case of someone doing something different with a progression, and it really sounds nice. Reviewer: Azo ========================================
